On the occasion of International Workers' Day, Carolina Wegmuller, head of the Youth Secretariat of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), denounced that 55.3% of Dominican youth are either unemployed or inactive, while a concerning 19% neither study nor work.

Wegmuller described the situation as "a bitter pill" for Dominican youth, warning that they are one of the least utilized labor forces in the country. She noted that more and more are forced to accept informal and poorly paid jobs.

She demanded that the government implement real public policies that provide decent job access and sustainable opportunities. She also announced that the PLD Youth Secretariat will soon present an integral proposal.

"Labor Day should be a time for reflection. It’s time for the government to step up with concrete actions, not empty populist speeches,” she concluded.
