New York City – Dominican Assemblyman George Álvarez (AD78) has introduced Bill A07601 in the New York State Assembly, aiming to extend the free one-day admission to the New York Zoo through December 31, 2030. The proposal is designed to benefit low-income families, particularly those in underserved communities such as the Bronx.

Álvarez emphasized that the measure ensures continued access to one of the city’s most important cultural, educational, and environmental spaces. “The zoo is not just a place of recreation, but one of learning, environmental awareness, and community bonding,” he stated.

The bill is currently under review in the Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts, and Sports Development. If passed, it will extend a tradition originally established in 1991 under Chapter 383 of New York State law, which has allowed thousands of families, students, and visitors to enjoy the zoo free of charge once a year.

As of now, the free admission provision is set to expire on December 31, 2025. This new legislation would extend that deadline by five more years. For more information about Bill A07601 or Assemblyman Álvarez’s legislative work, contact his office at (718)-933-2204.
