Mao, Valverde, R.D.- Opiniones encontradas en la interpretación de las leyes migratorias han surgido luego de que, la Dirección Regional Noroeste de la Policía Nacional llevara a cabo un operativo de control migratorio que culminó con la detención de un vehículo sospechoso en la carretera Mao–Esperanza, próximo al parquecito Duarte.
Aunque algunos sectores consideraban que este tipo de acciones correspondía exclusivamente a Migración o al Ejército, la Policía Nacional indicó que actuaron bajo el marco legal de los artículos 175, 176 y 224 del Código Procesal Penal Dominicano. A los detenidos se les garantizaron sus derechos fundamentales conforme a la Constitución y la ley.

Preventive patrol intercepts vehicle with 20 illegal foreigners in Mao

Mao, Valverde, D.R.—Under the leadership of General Guzmán Toribio, the Northwestern Regional Directorate of the National Police conducted a migration control operation that led to the interception of a suspicious vehicle on the Mao–Esperanza highway, near Duarte Park.
The preventive patrol stopped a white Toyota 4Runner, license plate G427461, driven at high speed by Elido Antonio Beato, a 31-year-old Dominican citizen from Dajabón. Inside the vehicle, officers found 20 undocumented Haitian nationals.
While some questioned the police’s role in such matters—typically handled by the military or immigration—the police affirmed they acted under Dominican Penal Procedure Code articles 175, 176, and 224. The rights of the detained individuals were respected, including the right to silence, legal counsel, and a phone call.
