La manifestaci\u00f3n fue encabezada por reconocidas figuras del movimiento campesino, como Gabriel del R\u00edo Do\u00f1\u00e9, Luciano Robles y Crucito Miguel Toribio, quienes solicitaron al presidente Luis Abinader detener de inmediato el proceso. Afirmaron que eliminar el IAD significar\u00eda una amenaza directa a los logros de la reforma agraria.<\/p>\n

Gabriel del R\u00edo, vocero de los manifestantes, expres\u00f3 que si bien el IAD necesita ser modernizado, su eliminaci\u00f3n ser\u00eda un retroceso con implicaciones sociales, pol\u00edticas y econ\u00f3micas para miles de familias del campo. En tanto, Luciano Robles alert\u00f3 que dicha fusi\u00f3n afectar\u00eda negativamente a los productores y beneficiarios del sistema agrario nacional.<\/p>\n

Desde Montecristi, Crucito Miguel Toribio, presidente de la Federaci\u00f3n La Altagracia, expres\u00f3 que \u201ccientos de miles de campesinos organizados est\u00e1n en total oposici\u00f3n a esta medida\u201d, y reclam\u00f3 al Gobierno fortalecer al IAD como entidad independiente, con m\u00e1s eficiencia y recursos para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

Santo Domingo, D.R.-<\/strong> Parcel owners, farmers, and leaders of rural organizations from across the Dominican Republic marched to the National Palace this Thursday to voice their opposition to the government’s proposed merger of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) with the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

The demonstration was led by notable figures from the national campesino movement, including Gabriel del R\u00edo Do\u00f1\u00e9, Luciano Robles, and Crucito Miguel Toribio. They issued a direct appeal to President Luis Abinader to halt the institutional merger process, which they argue threatens rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Gabriel del R\u00edo warned that dissolving the IAD would be a \u201cserious setback\u201d for the Dominican countryside. \u201cWe recognize the IAD needs renewal and support, but eliminating it would cause economic, social, and political harm to thousands of rural families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Luciano Robles emphasized that the merger would undermine the agrarian reform beneficiaries, while Crucito Miguel Toribio, president of the La Altagracia Federation in Montecristi, reiterated the rural sector’s overwhelming rejection of the proposal, calling for the IAD to remain an independent and strengthened institution dedicated to agricultural development and food security.<\/p>\n
